It’s too hot to sleep. I never turned my air conditioner off this weekend. Bobby’s got to be cool! My weekend started off on Friday night. I watched the great film The Falcon and the Snowman. Then the next day I learned that the director of that film, John Schlesinger, passed away.

Saturday I woke up around 12. I really got up at 8:30 but then I went back to bed and listened to music. The big plan for me was laundry. I wanted to get back in the habit of doing it myself, it’s too easy to just drop it off, plus they put fabric softener on everything and that got on my nerves last week. After I put something on I said to myself, OK, enough with the fabric softener! But back to my weekend, I started up my computer to check my e-mail and then I noticed I had a phone message. Walter called me up and wanted me to drive “Sally” and him to go look at a used car. Always one for an adventure, I said sure. I took my laundry to my car because I was going to do it later, then I drove to the PATH station to meet up with Walter and “Sally”. Before I knew it, we were on our way to God Only Knows, that’s somewhere in New Jersey.

We looked at the car but it wasn’t a perfect match. Next stop, Houlihan’s for lunch! Walter had the French Dip, “Sally” had the Caesar salad with chicken and I enjoyed a Hamburger. We had a delightful lunch and even had a celebrity sighting. It seems that dining right behind us was New York Giants Tight End, Howard Cross.

Celebrity sighting

OK, I admit it, I don’t really know who Howard Cross is but our waiter was very happy that he got Howard’s autograph. After a lovely dining experience I drove Walter and “Sally” back to the PATH train. Then, I got my laundry bag out of the car and walked to the laundry mat. I pushed on the door but it wouldn’t open. Then I looked at their business hours, they close at 5pm on Saturdays, hmmmmm, that seems odd, then I looked at my watch, it was exactly 5pm. At that point, I dropped my laundry bag, looked up at the heavens and yelled, WALTER AND “SALLY”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That last sentence was an embellishment. But I was crestfallen:Crestfallen; Adjective: Dispirited and depressed; dejected.

I was so full from my lunch that I just had a bowl of soup for dinner. I started to watch Lawrence of Arabia but ended up watching Magnolia on cable instead. I also watched Queen in concert, which is always amazing to watch. Freddie Mercury was pretty great.

Sunday, I woke up around 10 and watched the morning political shows. But with a full bag of laundry to wash, this was not time to relax. I got in the car and drove to Nutley. I haven’t been there in a while. It was exactly the way I remembered it, ha ha. I’m talking like I haven’t been there in years when I was probably there a month ago. They did open a new Famous Footwear store. They were giving 10% off because it was their Grand Opening. That’s a sweet deal. While I was doing my laundry, I went into that store three times looking for the perfect pair of shoes. I probably tried on 8 or 9 pairs before I found the perfect ones.

Bob’s new kicks

I like those but what about the price you ask? How’s $34 grab you?! That wasn’t a misprint: $34.

I also stopped in Kohl’s to purchase a new doormat. But their selection was not good. One mat had three people on it and it read: Party People. What the hell does that mean? “Welcome” was nowhere to be found. And the other mat was a stupid lighthouse, that mat didn’t read welcome either! If you can’t get a decent WELCOME mat in Kohl’s, where can you get one?

I dropped my laundry and shoes at the apartment and headed over to the A&P next. I decided on the spur of the moment to make myself a pizza. It ended up tasting not so great but what the hell.

It was too humid to even consider going anywhere else after that. I stayed in Sunday night and relaxed.

And that was my weekend.

How was your weekend? Let me know on my message board.

Have a great day!

Always,

Bob
