11-28-03 Two different people, Pam and Lauren, Instant Messaged me this yesterday: Gobble Gobble. What the heck is that all about?! I'm not a "gobble gobble" person. But I appreciate the thought. Sweet lord am I tired. Yesteday I had to be at work by 8:30 am. In years past, I used to drive in but haven't the last few years because it's kind of a pain to park and get here before Broadway shuts down. I was up at 5:25 am and out the door at 6:55. I was a block away from the bus as it pulled up to the stop, damn. I don't know when the next bus was coming. So now I'm at the bus stop alone, never a good sign. I walked to the train station and waited for the train. It finally comes but it's totally packed with old people and kids. Everyone's going to the BIG parade, woo-hoo! It smelled like old people, kids and onion rings. I get off of that hell ride and have to catch the D train to 7th Avenue (53rd Street). I get there and the train is pulling out of the station -- AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I'm waiting for the train and waiting. Now, it's 8:00, I CAN'T be late for work, I will not let that happen. So i left the subway, walked over two blocks and took a cab to 53rd Street. What a mess! People everywhere -- I haven't seen it that crowded it years. I got to the show and started working. I missed the whole damn parade. Best view in the city and this is all I saw at 4:00: The parade ended at 12:00 Such is life. I'm kidding of course. I'm not a parade person, all the kids and families and people; too much for Bobby. So that was my Thanksgiving. That's about it for this edition of bobborden.com. I'm taking a week off to learn about life and maybe in the process, learn a little something about myself. Can I get a witness? Thank you. See you December 8th. All my best, Bob PS Good luck Chris and Colleen! 11-25-03 My new headphones arrived yesterday! They're my last indulgence before cutting back. I like 'em a lot! I haven't had a good pair of headphones since high school. Here, check them out: Bob's new cans I cleaned my apartment yesterday. I got home last night and was shocked, it didn't even look like my place. And my cats noticed the difference too, that's always nice. I was thinking yesterday that it was bad that I didn't leave my apartment on Sunday. I mean, come on -- at least go for a walk! Oh well, live and learn. I like The Bealtes "new" Let it Be, Naked CD. It's like a demo. I really like The Long and Winding Road. I could listen to that one all day. I feel like I need a haircut. It's just coming over my ears and it's driving me nuts. Growing up all I heard was this, "You need a haircut!" I was flunking every class they threw at me but at least I had nice hair, thanks Mom. I'm just kidding Mom, well, sort of. That's it for today. I'm having uploading problems. I'm getting a weird error message about my code, it's driving me nuts -- I just want to watch TV! Oh well. Later -- Bob 11-24-03 Hello. This is my very first update using nothing but the Apple and a few prayers. I'm getting used to this new Apple way of thinking and you'll be happy to hear that I am no longer deleting programs. Friday night I picked up a tostada and watched some TV. I was spent from the night before; I was really looking forward to going to sleep. I also put some more songs on my ipod. Saturday I woke up around 10. I began an editing project that I'm trying to get together for my Christmas gift this year. The learning curve is hard; I called my tech-savvy friends, Walter and Jay numerous times trying to figure everything out. I got along pretty well after that. Around 3, I needed a break and decided to do my laundry. I was going to drive to Nutley but I thought I'd get stuck in traffic on the way back. I went to the laundry on the edge of town I used to go to years ago. It was pretty uneventful. On my way home, I stopped in the brand new Shop Rite that just opened up in Hoboken. I walked in with my cart, looked around at all the people and then walked out of the store. The place was too crowded for me too many people, workers and kids. I got in the car and headed over to my old stomping grounds, the A & P. The A & P was good to me and wasn't crowded at all. After a dinner of soup and hot dogs, I got back to editing. I didn't stop until 12:30. I'm still not 100% sure if I'm doing it right. I'll check with Walter and Jay today. Sunday I woke up around 9:30 and had very high hopes for the day. Should I drive to Red Bank, Ikea or just go for a long drive? The possibilities were limitless. So, I stayed in all day and watched football. I left my apartment once to take out the trash. I'm not proud of not doing anything; it just worked out that way. Besides, you go out and what do you do? You spend money. I need to give my wallet a rest. I was too kind to myself this month. OK, that's all I got! Have a great day. Always, Bob Weekend regret: Mini-Pizza Bagels 11-21-03 How many going-away parties can one man (& woman) have?! All I know is I'm waiting for a bus at the Port Authority at 1:30 am. I've never been there THAT late, I've always taken the train. Why did I go to the bus station, why?! I'm writing this update at 2:30 am. I had a long, hectic day and I blew off a little steam at yet another Chris and Colleen farewell party. I'm just kidding, of course, they deserve all the parties people want to throw, they're good people -- that's a rarity these days. I didn't make an ass out of myself at the party, that's always good. I swore I was only going to have one beer and then split but the bar was so crowded, it was easier for me to open a tab for myself. Ugh. OK. I have to get to bed. Blah, Blah, good weekend, Blah. Love, Bob 11-20-03 Whew! I was walking out of the office last night and the first thing I said to Dorothy was, "Why didn't anyone tell me it was raining?!" She said, "You didn't know it was raining?" Which is kind of a sad realization, because I wasn't kidding. What's even worse is that I sit next to a window. That was one heck of a rain too - check out my jacket: Bob's wet coat But I'm dry now and I can reflect on my day. I was watching President Bush at a state dinner over there in England, you know, hoping he'd screw up so we could get it on the show. I didn't see anything but I did hear a "clinking" noise like someone toasted prematurely. But without video, it was nothing. Then a few minutes later, I get an Instant Message from Carl (from my message board and England, ha ha). He said Prince Phillip spilled his glass of wine on the Queen. At that same time, I got different footage of the event and scanned forward to the toast and there it was. It was pretty funny. I showed it to my bosses and in about 30 minutes, it was on the show. Without Carl, I don't know if I would have forwarded to that spot so quickly. So I dedicate today's diary to my friend from across the pond, Carl - good work! The first song my ipod played for me when I got home was Kiss's Black Diamond - Thank you ipod. I love the ipod. I'm going to throw all my Cds in the sewer. Michael Jackson is in the news again. I wonder how sales of his new Greatest Hits CD will do? I don't know what his deal is but you can't sleep (only talking about sleeping) in the same bed with other kids, I'm sorry, that's wrong. As my Boss Eric has been saying all week, "Run Blanket, run!" I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to seeing his kids grown up wearing those masks. Blanket's yearbook photo will look like this: OK, that's about it for today. Have a good one, Bob 11-19-03 I don't know if I have a good one in me today. I worked and now I'm writing this during my precious evening hours. That's my routine; it doesn't leave a lot of time for me to write about living. When my bus got back to Hoboken last night, the street was blocked off. I'm guessing it was a fire: Hoboken's finest The firemen, flashing lights and smell of smoke gave it away. It didn't seem too bad - I hope no one was hurt. My beloved Steelers lost the big Monday Night game. I lost twenty bucks. I really thought they could beat San Fran. I offered Walter double or nothing on the color of Dan Rather's tie for the evening news. Walter didn't want to play. Walter's a smart guy. I may need to attend a gambler's anonymous meeting. I saw a guy take a wiz in the bus station last night. And me without one of those fancy camera-phones, ha ha. The bathroom was literally one flight of stairs down. But we've all been there, right? Moving on -- If you're a fireman or an EMS worker, do you think that siren gets old after a while? I was thinking about that as I was walking past all the excitement last night. Wow. Maybe I should have had my brother write this one. Stay beautiful, Bob 11-18-03 That was a Monday for the books, man! Hey, at least I'm not shoveling manure. Sorry manure guy. I'm still not at the 'updating my site via apple' stage yet. That's my goal, to figure out all this new technology this week. I figure if I can stop deleting major programs, I'll be ahead of the game. All the pain is worth it for this ipod. Somebody, I can't remember who, asked me if I had to choose, which would it be, ipod or Tivo? Great question, right? I went with the ipod. And I love Tivo! Well, there you go. I'm writing this before that start of Monday Night Football (or as they call it in England, soccer) so I don't know the outcome but I made a bet with Walter -- $20, I have Pittsburgh and he has San Francisco. They're both having bad years but I think the Steelers can pull out a win - that's what I'm betting on anyways. I'm thinking about getting the band back together again. I just have all these songs in my head - I need to get them out to the people. You know what I mean? Developing. Short and sweet today -- only because I have a game to watch and software to upload. With any luck, this could be my last diary updated on the old PC. I'm not holding my breath. Now it's time for Bob's Two Cents: Why do all the female field reporters in football wear hats? It's not a fashion show sweets, just give me the story. And that was Bob's Two Cents -- tell your friends. Rock 'n' Roll FOREVER! Bob 11-17-03 Friday was a tough one. I was so tired from staying out the night before. I can't rebound like I used to. Carl, Simon and English Weasel are great guys. I could have gone out with them again (Friday night) but I couldn't rally the troops. I just played a friendly game of cards and then headed home. I picked up a tostada and uploaded songs to my ipod. The nicest thing that happened to me on Friday was my boss Justin gave me a jacket! No kidding, he was talking about not knowing how to return stuff and he told me to try it on. To everyone's amazement, including mine, it fit - like a glove. Hello ladies He gave me the damn thing, wouldn't take a penny. Who the hell am I to turn down a coat, so it's all mine. Thanks again Justin! It's damn warm too. Saturday I woke up at 11 -- I needed that sleep. I felt refreshed. I watched TV and let the day come to me. Around 2:30, nothing came to me, so I walked up the street to do my laundry. I wasn't in the mood to sit there for two hours; I dropped it off and walked around Hoboken. I went to Tunes to look for some cheap music - my ipod is hungry! They had a CD I've been looking for -- The Beauty Shop and it was used! 'Used' means it was cheap! -- I like that. I also bought used, New Order's greatest hits and B.A.D.'s Tighten Up Vol. '88 -- very cheap. While I was looking around I noticed a lovely redheaded girl ask the cashier where the new release of Motley Crue was. I couldn't believe it!? It's like she was my soul mate! But alas, I didn't do anything. She was with a group of people - the intimidation factor was high, also, I'm not really sure if she was sincere in her interest in Motley Crue. Had I said something, I could have gotten the old, "Oh my God, you didn't think I was serious, did you?" That wouldn't have made my day. Sigh. Saturday night I had a burrito for dinner. I spent the evening flipping around and adding more songs to the ipod. I love that damn thing, love it! I have 612 songs so far. Who knew that Kiss had so many songs, ha ha ha. Around 11:30, I discovered the itunes music store. I downloaded a song; it wasn't too bad on my 56k modem. So, around 12:30 am, I decided to buy an album. Two hours later, I was finished, lol. No kidding, two hours to download an album. Live and learn. Sunday I woke up around 10. I got in the car and headed to Best Buy. I needed a cable to edit movies that my camcorder didn't come with -- always something. I got the cable but when I tried it out, I think I accidentally deleted my editing program. I'll get used to this Apple stuff, I hope. A little later in the day I discovered I deleted yet another major program! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I called Walter 4 times yesterday. I'll just reload, that's all I can do. That's all any of us can do. I made a great dinner for myself last night. Lamb chops and Couscous. I pan seared the lamb and then put it in the oven at 375 for 35/40 minutes - beautiful. And that couscous is so good! I call it 'the new rice'. Don't invite me over your house for dinner and not have couscous, that's all I'm saying. That's it! Stay beautiful, Bob 11-14-03 Answer: Diamonds and Buttermilk Hey, it's Friday! I just feel like I need some serious sleep time this weekend. I'm tired; you know what I'm saying? I went out after work last night. I haven't been out a Thursday night in years. OK, maybe a year. The occasion? Carl, Simon and English Weasel from my message board/England were in town! If I didn't go out and have a pint (or two), I'd be a cad. Here we are last night after enjoying a few: L to R: Simon, Carl, Bob, English Weasel (AKA the shark, AKA Jeff) We're quite the motley crue. Carl even brought me a nice fleece pullover from his company, Renault. And I didn't get him anything! I'm such a jerk! Damn, they're nice guys. There's something to be said for relaxing in a bar with good people. Carl, Simon, English Weasel and I got along famously. I can't say enough good things about those guys. I'm so glad I went out. They wouldn't even take any money from me. There'd be more depth to today's diary but I'm typing it at 4:00 am and I think I may be drunk (sorry Mom). I got back to Hoboken at 12:30 and then hung out with my friend Tiffany for a while. She's good people too. Damn it's windy/cold here now. 45-mph winds. You know Diane from my message board met up with Carl and friends the day before? How cool is that? And then my friend Lauren (Hobolola) met up with them hours before I did. And it's all because of my stupid website. OK, I have to go to bed. Have a great weekend! Always, Bob Question: When asked what was his favorite Prince album, Tim Mann responded: 11-13-03 Today is the first time I updated my site using Apple products. It's a whole new world for me! I still have a lot to learn -- going from Mac to PC is taking longer than I thought. I have to remember it is my first time doing this, hold steady Bob. (OK, I had to go back to PC to finish this update, crap) I'm running a little tired this week. All this going out and living the high life has taken its toll. I need a good eight hours of sleep and I don't see that happening until the weekend. On the other hand, I feel like I'm doing stuff, that's different for me as of late. I'm a proud owner of a used ipod! How long have I wanted one of those things? I bought it from my friend Tom. Tom sold Bob his old ipod Tom tried to charge me 99 cents a song for all the MP3s he left on the machine. That's like 400/500 bucks! What a scam! That's worse than the time I purchased a phone from the neighborhood electronics store, I got home, opened up the box and there was a brick inside. We did come to an agreement late Wednesday; I have to pay Tom, one penny every week until my debt is paid. Anyway, I love the ipod! Once I took 600 hundred of Tom's songs off and loaded up some classic Maiden, I was good to go! It put me to sleep that night and I blocked out all the idiots on the bus ride yesterday morning. Life is good. Stay beautiful, Bob 11-12-03 I'm back! I was too tired to post yesterday's diary. Thanks to my brother, George, for filling in -- he did a great job. And now, a very special bobborden.com -- Monday night I went to a lovely farewell dinner for my friends, Chris and Colleen. Chris has been working here for ten years and will be moving out west very shortly to enjoy life with Colleen. EVERYTIME we go out, I'm reminded of the time back when we were interns. I had a place in the city and Chris was living out in New Jersey somewhere. We were in Manhattan drinking, it was getting late and Chris asked me if he could crash at my place. Now in my defense, I'm from Ohio -- I don't know about crashing anywhere, let alone having people over at my place. Plus it was a sublet, we didn't know each other that well, blah, blah, blah -- you know what I'm saying. So he asks me if he can crash and I tell him in no uncertain terms: No. I can still remember his look of disbelief. He thought I was kidding but I was serious. Now if you think this was an asshole move on my part, you're right but I honestly didn't know any better. I'm not sure why I told that story, Chris brought it up (again) on Monday and I think I'm just trying to clear the air. Whatever that means. It was funny, when Chris started telling 'the story', Colleen said, "Oh, is this the story about Bob drinking and throwing up?" I've lived quite the life. My head couldn't have been any lower. The dinner was held at the famous Friars Club. Chris Albers invited everyone to share a beautiful night of food and memories. He was really generous and that's an understatement. Here's a photo: Top L to R: Jerry, Bob, Walter, Jay, Lorraine, Colleen and Chris Albers Bottom L to R: Sheryl, Tom, Chris and Michael Man, I hope I didn't forget anyone -- Oh, "Sally" took that photo. She was a little camera shy Monday night. Here's another shot of some of us on the elevator. Notice that I graciously knelt down so I wouldn't block Chris' view of the camera. Bobby Vegas I know, it's their night, and I'm hamming it up. Seriously, the camera does love me. Am I wrong? I'm not sure how to end this today? To Chris and Colleen, good luck, God bless -- don't change. "Don't change"? What the hell does that mean?! Very special thanks to Jay Johnson for the photos. That's it! Love, Bob 11-11-03 I had a great night last night. I guess the better word is - bittersweet. It's late and in order for me to give this event the proper coverage it deserves - wait - my cat just got caught in the handle of a shopping bag. OK, I'm back; they are curious creatures, aren't they? - So, I'm going to devote Wednesday's diary to one heck of an evening. I knew I wouldn't have time tonight to write something good, so I asked my brother George to write today's diary for me. Wait, I'm watching ESPN and some announcer just said, "I'm going to flip the script on this one." What a jackass! OK, without further adieu, my brother George (I'll be back on Wednesday): Greetings Bobborden.com fans, Bob's brother George here. Last week I offered to "pinch-hit" for Bob during times he cannot produce a diary, well, today is your lucky day! As most of you know, Bob told me to pound salt with my offer on 11-05-03. Since he is too busy tonight, he sent me flowers and told me what a "smart older brother" I am and took me up on my offer, you know folks, I'm just trying to help...that's what big brothers do. First of all I would like to congratulate Bob on a great 3-year run of this diary, folks, coming up with this stuff is not easy (insert applause for Bob here)! And second I would like to thank all who participate in the chat board on this site, (insert applause for bobborden.com fans here)! My wife and I attended the wedding of my best friend in New York City over the weekend and had a great time. Newlyweds! Friday morning we woke-up and decided to take a walk to get a bite to eat. We passed by the Today show, saw Katie, Matt and Al. Afterward we got a cup of expensive-ass coffee at Dean and Deluca's across from NBC. We waited to see Bernadette Peters but she never showed. I took my wife on a long walk toward the Late Show and ended up at the Hello Deli to get a couple bagels from Rupert. I have not see him in about 6 years so I had to re-introduce myself to him. Rupert then remembered me and whipped-up our order. I didn't tell Bob that we were coming by that morning, Rupert told me what time Bob usually stops by, but we missed each other. On Saturday night we met Bob for dinner at The Palm and let me tell you...if you ever go to the city, go hungry and get a steak at The Palm. Folks this was the most outstanding slab of beef I have ever had, it made Morton's seem like dog meat! Great service, great food and most of all great company. My wife, Liz, got the salmon...it's her favorite. The poor thing couldn't even finish it -- oh well that's big city eating for ya! George and Liz After dinner we decided to call it a night due to being bloated from The Palm. Liz and I got back home to Steubenville Sunday afternoon to our 4 children who were missing us. Folks, that's about it for me for this round of "Assisting Bob with the Diary". I wish all the bobborden.com readers a great Tuesday. Please come back tomorrow when your regular host will be with you. If you have any questions for me please utilize the bobborden.com chat board. I will respond to you. Sincerely, George PS Some of you may know that I play drums in a heavy metal band (yes, it's true ;-)). Well, if your going to be in Pittsburgh, PA this coming Sunday we will be playing with RATT at a local venue. Check out this link for more information http://www.aftershok.com/news.htm. Until next time! 11-10-03 Hello. Friday night I got home around 7:30, enjoyed a lovely tostada and then made the switch. That's right, I'm an Apple man now. I like the new experience but by Sunday I had to switch back because I need some help with the new programs I need to update bobborden.com. Why must their always be a learning curve, WHY?! Saturday I woke up around 9, gathered up my laundry and drove to Nutley. I had a lot of stuff. On my way, I stopped off at the old big & tall and picked up a handsome suede jacket, that's right, suede. This is the jacket I've been looking for, smart, sexy, form fitting and it was on sale! The other jacket I just purchased I decided I don't really care for it, I'll send it back this week. It was kind of huge and the last thing I need is a huge jacket. While my laundry was drying I walked over to the local refurbished computer shop and picked up a nice little JBL sound system for the Apple - it was only $29 bucks! That was the second best purchase of the day. I got back to Hoboken, hung up my clothes and cleaned up a little. The plan for Saturday night was to meet up with my brother George and sister-in-law Liz. We were going to break bread at The Palm, great steak place. I was having trouble getting my look together so I called up my friend Paula for advice. She gave me some great tips. I didn't bring my camera with me but I did take a photo of my sharp outfit before I left. Bob's on deck! There's something pretty sad about taking a photo of yourself but what the hell? I took the bus in and met them around 6:30. Damn did we have a great dinner! Liz had the salmon, George had the NY Strip and I had a filet minion. My steak was the size of a football (that's a good thing). We were going to meet up with people afterwards but it didn't pan out. I was kind of happy because I didn't want to tie one on after a great dinner. We parted ways and I made my way back to Hoboken. Sunday I woke up around 11. I haven't been to the A & P in about 3 weeks so I had to go to stock up on cat food. I came back home and did some house cleaning, played around with the computer and watched football. Around six, I was looking for my paper towels and then it hit me, I bought paper towels but I never took them out of the store. Damn! Oh well. I think that's it. Yep, that was my weekend. Stay beautiful, Bob 11-07-03 My Matrix review in one paragraph but first, how's it going? OK, now for the review: I knew walking into the theater that I probably wouldn't care for the film and sadly, that's what happened. That's it, the whole review. A lot of crap exploded, then they all sat around a big, Matrix-like table and the last line of the movie was, "That's the Matrix for you" Oh darn, did I ruin the ending for you? Sorry. The great part about seeing the Matrix is I saw all of them with my friend Jay. We made a nerd-pact at the first Matrix that we'd see them all. Colleen joined us for the second and Walter joined us for the third. To Jay I say this: We did it man, we did it! After the film, Jay headed to the east, Walter and I to the west. On the way to the bus station/subway, Walter saw a huge Beastie Boys framed poster. Cut to Walter asking the trash guys if he can take it. They were cool and gave it to Walter but the glass was broke. We (mostly him) tried to take the poster out but it was fused to the backing board and the broken glass would have been a problem. I had to talk him out of it; otherwise I'd still be there -- bad enough that this all happened at 12:30 am. I told him he could find one on the Internet in less than 5 minutes. Found art, almost See what I mean, five-minutes. By the way, "Sally", you owe me one - you were one piece of glass away from staring at a robot with a record player on its chest for the rest of your life. Looking forward to the weekend. I'm going to break bread with my brother and sister-in-law who are in town for a wedding. That's a good way for me to get out, have people come to visit. Thank goodness they're staying at a hotel. I couldn't imagine three people living under one roof in my place. I live like a hobo, ha ha. That's it! Have a great weekend. Always, Bob The answer to yesterday's Bob Borden: True or False was: True, Bob was taking photos of rats on the subway platform. Wow, that really sounds pathetic, oh well. 11-06-03 The first two hours of my day yesterday was spent talking to computer people about all the computers that didn't work on my floor. They fixed it but it was a bad start to the day. And how did I become the guy that has to talk to the computer guys? They talk about servers and IP addresses like I know what the hell I'm doing - for the record; I don't know what I'm doing. Very stressful. Tonight, I'm going to see The Matrix. I don't know if I'm really looking forward to seeing it. The last one left me with more questions than answers. Plus it's going to be crowded -- I hate crowds. I don't know if you're aware of this trend but around here, movies sell out. Not one seat to spare in the whole theatre. But I'll be positive and take it for what it is - 'what it is' is probably a waste of $20, ha ha ha. It's hard to believe it's Thursday already. This week flew by! That's all I have to say on that subject. I'm getting really sick of the lottery! My numbers haven't been close in months, MONTHS! I can't forget it either; this is my future we're talking about here! I think I'm going to do a serious cleaning of my apartment this weekend. I let it slide last weekend and now I feel like I'm living in squalor. And don't even get me started on my closet situation. I think I need to throw out a whole bunch of old clothes. Cut to a photo of a zuit suit, ha ha. Or is it Zoot suit? Ah, who cares? Crap, I forgot to vote on Tuesday. Voting in Hoboken is such a depressing proposition. You just know that everyone is on the take or soon will be. Somehow people in Northern NJ think they'll never get busted, pretty funny. I walked into a store last night to pick up a snack. A guy was standing at the candy rack really studying all the items. I had to step around him; he was so focused. I was at the checkout and he walks up beside me, looks down at the counter and says to seemingly no one, "Oh, you do have Orbits" Ha ha, that was the funniest thing I heard all day. Orbit is a gum, NOTE: Due to an error in saving, I lost the remainer of the November 2003 diaries. This will stand as a lesson to me. It's like my Granddad used to say; Measure twice, cut once. |
