02-28-05 Friday night, maybe the less said about that the better. All I'll share is I got home at 3 AM, had some milk and two chocolate donuts. Have you ever had donuts after a night of drinking? Oh my, the best! Saturday I woke up around 12:00. It was a day of soul searching for me. Heavy stuff. If you ever want to feel depressed, just take a step back and think about what the hell you're doing. Man. Around 6, I headed over to the Laundry Factory to do a couple of loads. I used the big, $4.75 machine - I had a lot of stuff, not sure why, it just worked out that way. While the clothes were drying, I walked over to Target. I bought First Blood on DVD. It's a new edition with extra scenes. Here's what made me buy it: Alternate Suicide Ending! How cool is that? All DVDs should be advertised that way. There were thoughts of Rambo killing himself! That could have saved us the pain of Rambo 2 and Rambo 3, ha ha. "They drew first blood, not me." Great movie! I watched that and then I watched Metallica's Some Kind of Monster. It was pretty good. It was a little long but they filmed it over 3 years. I'd watch it again, it was weird, they were so worried about each other's feelings to the point where you just wanted someone to say, you're rich, relax - just make music! But it also involved rehab and I don't know about that. Hitting rock bottom can't be fun. Sunday was the last day of Christo's Gates. I have to say, The Gates never thrilled me but because they were so close, I couldn't just sit back across the river and not see this first hand. I took the PATH train over and had such an incredible day! Bob LOVES the gates As I was walking through the gates, I couldn't help to think of the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Japan. Check this out: Fushimi Inari Shrine What up Christo?! Such a fine line between art and thievery. Oh Christo, when will you ever learn. I got a haircut after that, went to a bookstore, why I did that I'll never know, ha ha. And did some window shopping. I stayed in the rest of the day. I watched the Academy Awards last night, it was OK. I also backed up all my MP3's on DVD -- that took about three hours and I started it at 8:30, not too smart. Oh well. OK, that's it! Have a great day. All my best, Bob 02-25-05 It's Friday, that was somewhat quick. I was proud of myself for seeing Kings of Leon this week. It was a school night and you know me - I don't break routine. It felt good to do something with Pam, we never hung out before. I'll have to remember this feeling the next time I say no to something. I went out and it didn't kill me. In other news: SNOW! AND MORE SNOW!! Ha ha, I left work with my friend Jay last night and we took those photos. Snow is nothing new to either of us but they seemed like good photos at the time, ha ha. They're really cool looking. Uptown is behind me and downtown is behind Jay - for those of you that have never been to the big apple before. Friday, it will all be one big grey ball of dirt and ice. I got on the subway last night with poor homeless man that didn't smell good and poor crazy woman that was screaming something that must have made sense to her. I held my breath, when the train made its next stop, I ran to the other car. I felt bad for these people and wondered why someone wasn't helping them or why they weren't helping themselves. I've been on the train with that guy countless times. I don't know. I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing this weekend but I'm 100% sure what I'm not doing and that's going to Atlantic City. (that doesn't make sense, right? oh well.) Unless they send me some sweet deal to get me back down, ha ha. I do have $86 slot dollars but I can't go, that'd be wrong. Right? Damn new gambling addiction! That's all I have for the week ending blah blah blah. Stay Beautiful, Bob 02-24-05 Bob's sofa 1, Bob 0. I fell asleep on the sofa again! Must go to bed. Sorry for the non-diary. 02-23-05 I had a great night last night! Pam and I went to see Kings of Leon - they were great! K.O.L. P.A.M. (?) I think she liked them as much as I did! I do wish that they would have talked to the crowd more but I can also see the all business rock 'n roll way too. They have some great songs, they're great musicians and they have a singer with a great voice. You should check them out. We had a lovely dinner before we got there. Some band was opening up but they weren't our cup of tea. Or anyone else's, ha ha. Poor opening bands. That's all I have due to the late hour. Hey, The Borgata invited me to a slot tournament, that's cool, right? Damn, they got me! Have a great day! Hugs, Bob 02-22-05 Welcome Late Show Newsletter readers! I was featured in the Late Show newsletter this week, how about that?! They asked me three questions and even included my last remote; Bob in the Poconos. Now it's time to talk about my weekend. I usually do this on Monday but put it off a day due to Presidents' Day. Oh man, did I have a great Presidents' Day, so much better than last year, I'm kidding. Friday night I picked up some Mexican food and headed home. I cleaned up some stuff and got my laundry together. That's it for Friday. Saturday I woke up around 10. The plan? Atlantic City baby! The Borgata knows a high-stakes player when they see one and they comped me a room! Hello Bobby Vegas! I mean, Hello Bobby Atlantic City (doesn't sound the same). I took my laundry to the laundry mat and let them figure out how to do it. I love the laundry drop off, that gave me back two weekend hours. I picked up Walter at the PATH station and we were on our way. I'm not going to go into a bunch of facts and figures, here's a quick rundown: 2:00 PM: Check in 2:05 PM to 6:00 PM - Lost all my money, went to the ATM, lost all that money. 6:30 to 9:00 - Went back to the room and took a nap. 9:00 to 11:00 - Dinner at the buffet, the woman in front of us said it was the best, she was wearing a pink jogging suit - I had my doubts. 11:00 to 5:00 AM - After another trip to the ATM, I won my money back playing my favorite Kenny Rogers slot machine. I played Blackjack after that and was way into the black. Played 3-card poker, lost a lot and was back to even when we turned in. 11:00 AM - Breakfast tip - Sure, you could stand in line waiting for a table with all the suckers, or you could eat at the counter and avoid the line. This would prove to be our smartest move. 12:00 - We broke our rules and went back to the tables. We lost and left down, very down. I got home around 4:00, dropped off Walter at the PATH station, went to the A & P, picked up my laundry and learned a lesson in the process. That lesson was to stick to your rules, don't let greed overcome you. Greed beat Walter and I this weekend. Maybe that's a good thing. I can honestly say that I'm not going back for a long, long time. This Just In... Oh crap, I have to go back, they're giving away a car! I didn't learn anything. I was so tired I fell asleep on my sofa Sunday night and missed dinner. I thought that was pretty funny. Walter and I talked about our hurt feelings on Monday. We decided that we shouldn't go to casinos together. We can't control ourselves let alone each other. The great thing from this weekend was having my laundry done for me. That makes me feel like a million bucks! I'll remember that next time I have the urge to go back to AC, ha ha. That's about it for today. Have a great day! Sincerely, Bob 02-21-05 Rather than write a huge diary about my weekend that no one will read due to the holiday...I'm going to hold off and post a good one Tuesday. But here's a recap in case you just can't wait: Went back to Atlantic City, lost a lot of money. I'll be dining on soup for all meals, at least for a little while. Once a sucker, always a sucker. But we had fun. "SIGH!" See you Tuesday! But if you think about it, I'm still up on the year -- yeah, I like thinking about it like that! Always, Bob 02-18-05 I don't like anyone on The Apprentice this time around. I hope no one wins. I have to say that Carolyn seems like a nice woman, she's very elegant. I mean that in a non-stalker way. Can you tell I'm watching TV while writing this diary? I still have this stupid cold! But others around work have it too. It will be over before I know it. Seems like I should just rest this weekend but I have plans in place that can't be moved. Repeat: Cannot be moved! Ha ha. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate my diaries this week a 'D-.' Going to bed early isn't exciting writing. But next week should be pretty good. I'll talk about my weekend on Monday, I'm doing something fun Tuesday night and so on. OK, that's it! Have a great weekend. It's so hot in my apartment right now, I feel like I have Malaria. I wonder if that's even possible? Somewhat interesting It seems like a long shot, maybe I'll just open up my window. All my best, Bob 02-17-05 Thanks to everyone for your kind words about my appearance on Late Show (2/15/05) -- really nice of you! So, I'm home on Tuesday night, waiting to see myself on the tube and what happens? I fell asleep on the damn sofa! I missed it! Getting a tape shouldn't be too hard but it's just the idea. My head isn't in the game because of my latest cold. I blew my nose so much yesterday, I had a nose bleed. It wasn't major, just a warning that I shouldn't do that anymore, ha ha. It's just a cold though, I'll stop bitching. Not to bring up TV again BUT, my friend Carl tells me that the Tuesday show airs in England at 5am on Thursday. I love that! In a few hours, I'm going to be worldwide! To all my English friends, I say this; Welcome! Welcome English friends! I'm going cut it short today because I need to go to sleep. Have a great day. Oh, remember a few days ago, I talked about my space bar sticking? I blew some air in there last night and a nail from one of my cats got stuck in there. Now it's 100%! It's the little things. All my best, Bob 02-16-05 ![]() This siren's so cool, I thought I'd leave it up for another day! Remember when I took a day off last week? That's what I was doing, I was in the Poconos. I met a lot of great people up there, they set me up with their best room! It had a 7 foot tall champagne glass hot tub, a sauna, a small pool and a round bed with mirrors on the ceiling. Hmmmmmm, interesting. I have to say, I'm glad I was working -- It'd be a little weird if I were up there by myself. It reminded me of the time I went to Niagara Falls -- Couples EVERYWHERE! I never felt so alone. It was pretty sad, ha ha. That was exciting. Have you seen The Gates yet? The Gates At first, I thought, wow, that's pretty cool, Christo is really a great artist, then it hit me...look at this photo of my office taken this past Friday: Bob's gate What the F!? My office art was on display on Friday and then Christo's "project" happened on Saturday. You have to get a patent for everything now days -- learn through me, don't make my mistakes. That's all I have today. I'm going to relax so this cold doesn't stick with me. Have a great day. Sincerely, Bob 02-15-05 ![]() I'M ON TONIGHT!!! Sorry for the non-update today...I'm fighting a bad cold. I went home last night, crashed on my sofa and woke up at 4:30 AM. I'll have a full diary on Wednesday. Always, Bob 02-14-05 UPDATE: I AM NOT ON THE SHOW TONIGHT, that's not as bad as it sounds, I may be on tomorrow. At the risk of jinxing myself: There's a good chance I may be on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight (2/14/05)! These things could go either way depending on how the day goes but if I make it, I'll put up the siren at the top of this page around 5:30 PM -- CHECK BACK THEN! Friday night I was going to go home but then I was reminded of Walter's birthday dinner. I left work around 8:30 to meet up with everyone at 9:00. I can't remember the name of the place, it was similar to Bell Biv Devoe. It was crowded, my gut instinct was to walk out backwards and go home. But I knew that if I did that my friends would probably write me off. I sucked it up and found my comfort zone. Bob's "comfort zone" Ha ha, nothing like a cheap joke and in picture form too. We had a good dinner/talk and soon, it was time to part ways. L to R: Susie, Tom, Walter, Bob, Jay and Eric (photo credit, "Sally") I was free and clear then for some reason I brought up going out for a beer (!). We went to a bar that still allowed smoking, we didn't want to drink there, I took that as a sign and parted ways. I was a block away and I started to hear my name. I thought I dropped my wallet or something, I walked back and we went to another bar. Two beers later, we really parted ways. I was a block away and really had to use the bathroom. I looked around for places but everything was closed. I get to the PATH train and think I may have to go to the end of the track. I get down there and some guy had the same thought that I did, damn! He does his business but doesn't leave! By this point, I'm sweating. The train comes and I'm back in Hoboken. I usually walk home but I had to take a cab because I was just in pain. YUK. And I only had three beers the whole night! Saturday I woke up around 10:00. I was going to do my laundry but didn't have the energy. I watched a whole bunch of shows on Discovery about murders in small towns. Creepy stuff. I walked away with this knowledge; you just can't kill people anymore. There's always a clue or a video camera or someone watching you. I had planned on seeing a film my friend KIPLEY was showing around 8 PM but I made the mistake of reading the review, I ruined it for myself. Instead, I went to the record store. I found some great deals. I picked up Kris Kristofferson and Anthrax for $2.99 each! I also bought Prince's Around the World in a Day for $7.99. I listened to a lot of music on Saturday. I picked up some Chinese food on the walk home. Sunday I woke up around 10:30 and got the laundry together. I headed to Nutley but stopped of at Wal-Mart first. I like Wal-Mart, it's all there under one roof. While my clothes were in the wash, I ate some pizza next door. After that, I played some scratch-off tickets. I hate to say it but I bought more tickets than I should have. They were Pac-Man scratch offs and I love Pac-Man. I lost about $20. I drove to the A & P in Jersey City after that. I got home around 4:00 and had no plans of leaving my apartment again. Driving my car (5-speed) didn't bother me as much as it did last weekend. I was in more traffic too, so maybe I'm getting used to it. I played Halo 2 (x-box live) with my nephews around 7:00. That was fun, it's so amazing that I can play with them, worth every penny. Between that and isight (Apple's webcam) I never have to go home again, ha ha. That's it for today. Wish me luck if I get on the show tonight. All my best, Bob 02-11-05 I said I'd be back today and I'm a man of my word. I just had a couple of fun days, I can't share what I did at this time but here's a hint; You may be able to see it very soon. I'll have more information on Monday. I hate to post such a short diary but I'm very tired and need to get some sleep. Have a great weekend! All my best, Bob 02-09-05 Anything wrong with a 35-year-old who downloads the master works of Whitesnake on a whim? OK, to be fair to myself, I only downloaded 3 songs but that was enough for me to realize that something is missing in my life, I mean, something HAS to be missing, right? I asked my friend Walter about this and he asked, "which songs?" Before I could answer, he tried to guess which songs. He was 2 for 3, ha ha! Granted, Whitesnake ain't The Beatles but I was impressed at his knowledge of bad heavy metal music. I have a soft spot for those songs (Love Ain't No Stranger, Still of the Night and Slide it in), they were just SO over the top. Updating my site is a little harder for me these days. My cat, Evelyn, was playing on the shelf above my computer, an item fell on my computer and now the space bar seems less than 100%. Darn! I look back on what I wrote and every so often, the words are unspaced. It's driving mecrazy! See what I mean?! How do you punish a cat? Exactly. Maybe I just need to blow some air in there or hit the key harder. Excuse me for a second...YAWN! I know this may seem late but it's time to review my favorite Super Bowl commercials. Just kidding. Working in broadcast news these days must be the best gig going. Think about it, half of the stories are already written. It was the Super Bowl, let's roll the story on the Super Bowl widows (women that feel neglected because their husbands want to watch the game). At the first sign of snow, let's go with the 'Winter Blahs' story (that story always ends the same, just turn on the lights, you'll be fine). Every New Year you have the New Year's baby and the Polar Bear club. There's always a story about the world's largest 'whatever' that some poor town in Iowa made and there's always, ALWAYS a story about some basketball player making a lucky full court shot at the last possible second to win the big game. There's nothing special about that, it's just luck! Take that, news! Wow, where did that last paragraph come from? Have I ever talked about that before? It seems like I have. Anyway, I'm fine, really, I'mcool. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! How am I going to get a space bar fixed?! That's it! Program note: I'm taking a diary break on Thursday for reasons I can't share at this time. But I'll be back on Friday. Stay beautiful, Bob 02-08-05 Today, something simple. Let's wish Walter (friend/webmaster) a very happy birthday!!! Happy Birthday Walter! That's it! Have a great day. All my best, Bob 02-07-05 And now, my weekend: Friday night: Burrito, then home. In my mailbox; an intriguing offer from The Borgata: $92 slot dollars, $162 comp dollars and a free room! But is it too soon to drive back down? Hmmmmm. I relaxed the rest of the night. Saturday I woke up around 9 and was very, very close to driving to Atlantic City. I finally had to call Walter and let him talk me down. He was the voice of reason, we decided to wait and go down when we could take advantage of the "free" room. I started to gather up my laundry but I wasn't in the mood. I watched TV instead. I watched TV all day - it was fantastic. I ended up watching a show about Caesars in Las Vegas, ha ha. It was OK, seems like a lot of the "action" was set up, just a feeling. Around 6:30, I headed out to pick up some dinner. I walked around for a while, went in a couple of record stores before getting my Chinese food and going home. When I got home there were 5 calls from my Mom. My brother set up the isight camera I sent her and she wanted to test it out. isight is Apple's webcam but it's SO much better than a webcam. I talked to them for a while, face to face, it was really cool. I enjoyed my dinner and then paid some bills. I've been a little loose with the spending as of late but was surprised by how much I had on my credit card. $50 here and $50 there adds up quick. But you only live once. I balanced the books and promised I'd watch my spending...right after I purchased The Greatest American Hero: Season 1 -- Come on, it was only $18! No one understands me. Sunday I woke up around 9:30. I got my laundry together and headed off to Nutley. I stopped off at Wal-Mart on the way. I needed some underwear. More than you needed to know? Maybe. I also bought some cat beds. In all my years of cat ownership, I never bought them a bed. Would they like it? Take a look at this: Cat nap They take care of me, I take care of them. While my laundry was in the wash, I got caught up with my friend Tim in Ohio - always good to talk to a brother. I drove back to Hoboken, unloaded my laundry and then drove over to the A & P. I'm reminded that I drive a 5-speed everytime I drive around Hoboken. Stop and go, stop and go. This is me a few months ago, "Oh, driving a stick shift won't be so bad again." But I'm fine. There was a bird flying around on the inside of the A & P, ha ha, it was weird. Excuse me for a second, YAWN! I drove home and was in for the night. I cleaned my apartment, ate some dinner and watched the game. You call it the Super Bowl, I call it the Snoozer Bowl. It was a good, tight game but I have no love for either team. I just watched it so I'd have something to talk about at the water cooler. I think that's about it. Oops, I think Philly may have just lost the game. Hard to win when you throw the ball to the other team. Sorry "Sally." Have a great day! All my best, Bob 02-04-05 Did you ever look at your music collection and say to yourself, 'Hey, I don't have any Anthrax?' Still getting it done! Well, that's the position I found myself in last night. I haven't paid attention to those guys since the late 80's. Anyway, after a little research I found out they just put out a new CD. It's old songs from the 80's but they did them over again with their new singer, everything's heavier. Heavier is better. So, that's pretty much all I did last night. I downloaded an Anthrax CD. On paper, that seems a little sad. Something to think about. I was going to watch The Apprentice but I still haven't watched last week's yet. I'm going to save both of them for this weekend. Excuse me for a second...YAWN! I went over some different designs with Walter (friend/webmaster) yesterday. BobBorden.com Mach 3 isn't too far away but I can't give an exact date yet. It's a lot of XML code and other things I can't get into right now. It's funny, he knows all this tech stuff and all I can think to say is, 'will it look pretty?' It's a beautiful way to work. I have to say, I'm going to watch the Super Bowl this year to see what happens to Terrell Owens. If he plays, I don't know, it just seems so crazy! I hope he doesn't get hurt to the point of ending his career. After a hard hit, the dark side of me expects to see his leg fly into the stands. I'm also going to watch for some of that sweet Janet Jackson action, ha ha. I have ER on in the background, I don't know, is it just me, why does there always have to be sick people on there? Hello, it's depressing! And you're trying to tell me the ER is ALWAYS that busy - I have my doubts. How about a show where they're on break and they eat sandwiches, am I alone on this?! You know, that's it. If I had anything to say at all, I would have said it already. Have a GREAT weekend! Go Steelers...Damn, still hurts. If I had to wish one team well, it'd be the Eagles. So, Go Eagles, I guess. All my best, Bob 02-03-05 In a show of solidarity, bobborden.com honors the people of Iraq for taking a major step towards reclaiming their country. Ummmmm, nevermind. Man, I went A LONG WAY to make that joke. I thought of it on Monday but didn't have time to pull it off. The ink store wouldn't let me buy anything Tuesday night because it was so close to closing (I will NEVER go there again!). I finally had to buy a $3 set of paint. But if I made one person smile, it was all worth it, unless that one person was the devil or Saddam -- Damn you poetic justice!!!! Holy crap, The Limey is on IFC right now...such a darn good movie! Steven Soderbergh, what have you done for me lately? I guess if making movies were easy, we'd all be stars. But Ocean's Twelve(?), give me a break! Hollywood! I should have watched the State of the Union address last night but I have to say, I wasn't in the mood. Don't you think it'd be cool if the President got up there and said, 'you know what, everyone's rich' - just throw away this monetary system that takes us away from our families and important stuff like video games and beer. Am I the only one that thinks that way? I feel like watching my Tenacious D Dvd. That's it! Have a great day. All my best, Bob 02-02-05 I'm writing today's diary at 10:30 PM, Tuesday night. I bring that up because I just hit the wall; if I were on my sofa, I'd be asleep. I've got Prince piped into my ears, that's making me wake up. Put your hands up for love, y'all! - That's what I'm talking about! A new look to bobborden.com is coming. I was talking to Walter (webmaster/friend) yesterday and we're moving forward with a Blog system that will make updating easier for me and be a little more straightforward for the user (that's you). I'm excited - you'll be able to leave a message too! When will this happen exactly? I'm not sure but the wheels are in motion. Did you know that the 690th song on my ipod is Drive by The Cars? Holy goodness, I totally forgot to talk about my new glasses! Ah crap, and I totally forgot that I charged them! I'm afraid that the money I won over the weekend is already spoken for, DAMN DAMN DAMN!!! I do not like being poor. Anyway, here's what I looked like with my old glasses: YAWN And here's what I look like with my new glasses: YEAH! Wow, what a difference! Well, not really but I like them. That was quite the pose, ha ha. They say I make love to the camera. At least I'm making love to something. (OK, now I'm sad.) Did you know that the 701st song on my ipod is E=mc(2) by Big Audio Dynamite? I went to a store last night in Hoboken to buy some ink, I was buying it for a joke that I was going to do in my diary. Anyway, I get to the store at 7:56, they close at 8:00. The lights are on, the people are inside. They turned me away! I didn't try to get in with the old, 'I know what I want bit.' I just thought that as a paying customer, they'd want my business! If I were a shop owner and someone came to my door at closing, guess what - I'd open the Fking door! If I were the owner and my employee turned someone away, I'd fire their ass. F them! OK, now I'm upset. Did you know that the 730th song on my ipod is Every Breath You Take by The Police? That's it! Have a great day. Always and forever, Bob 02-01-05 My good friend Jeff was in a car accident Sunday night. Thankfully, no one was hurt. He's in Nashville for a few months on business. Jeff and his friends were in a cab on the way to a bar. They get to the bar, another car hits them from behind...wait, let me ask Jeff what happened from there: Bob: Jeff, what happened? Jeff: Crazy. We got rear ended, the cab driver hit the gas instead of the brake and we drove into the bar. The air bag hit the driver in the face, it was nuts! No one was hurt Wow, that's something! What's the moral of this story? That's right: Drink at home. Time for a new feature to bobborden.com today, I call it; Walter Kim's Near Celebrity Sightings. On the way home from the casino Saturday night, Walter told me that Morgan Freeman was playing poker in the same room he was playing. I was a little bummed because I would have liked to see him play poker, that would have been cool. I really liked Million Dollar Baby and don't even get me started on The Shawshank Redemption. Walter told me they announced his name over the speaker but Walter didn't actually see him. Cut to Monday morning, I open up the trades and I see this: Director Clint Eastwood stands with 'Million Dollar Baby' co-stars Morgan Freeman and Hilary Swank as they pose with Eastwood's nominee plaque during the 57th annual Director's Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills January 29, 2005. (REUTERS/Fred Prouser) What the heck?! Morgan was in Beverly Hills, the same night he was at The Borgata in Atlantic City, how is that possible?! Ha ha ha! Oh Walter. I hope you enjoyed Walter Kim's Near Celebrity Sightings...Tune in next week when Walter says this to me, "Dude, I just saw Al Pacino at Blimpie's!" (Walter knows I'm just kidding and the only reason I wrote about anything at all is because I have nothing to talk about. Much love.) I'm very tired.
