12-23-04 2004: The Year In Review Things got off to a rough start when I got stuck in this prize machine I was thrilled to meet Tova and Ernest Borgnine This is the bed that caused me to sleep-in for our (Late Show) 4 AM show The less said, the better PRINCE! I met these nice people in a traffic jam on route 80 This guy looked so much like me, I wrote to him. He was nice enough to write back. Go Steelers! That's it for 2004, it was one hell of a year! Thank you for still making it fun -- you keep reading, I'll keep writing. 2005 this site will get a facelift, with some type of messageboard, that's something, right? Happy Holidays -- See you in 2005 (Jan 3 to be exact). All my best, Bob 12-22-04 Sorry for the late update, I have a feeling no one's reading this time of year anyway. I'm still sick. I took today off of work because I haven't improved. Today should do the trick, I hope. I started Tuesday morning by throwing up in the shower. Ha ha, "Sally," sorry about that, I guess there's such a thing as being too honest. I had a coughing spell and that set it off. At work on Tuesday I passed out my Holiday DVDs. I always feel good when that's over with...I passed out about 60 and counting. Tuesday night I was riding the bus home, listening to my ipod, trying to fight off coughing. The bus stops, a woman gets up (she's on her cell) and leaves her wallet on the seat. Without thinking, I grabbed her by the backpack, said I was sorry (I may have grabbed her too hard, I got the "WTF" look, ha ha) and told her about her wallet, she was very grateful. Even in sickness, I'm all about helping others. And yes I know it's not cool to talk about ones good deeds but the way I figure it, what the hell? That's it. Sincerely, Bob 12-21-04 No diary today due to the fact that I have the flu. I feel a little better today but not enough to write a diary. Have a good one. Sincerely, Bob 12-20-04 Friday night I stayed late at work and finished all my holiday DVDs that I give out to friends. I stayed until 9:30. Saturday I woke up at 7:30 AM, gathered up all my laundry and drove to the inspection station to get my car inspected. It passed, thank goodness. I went to the laundry/A & P and made it home just in time to watch the Steelers play. I had some chicken for dinner and then started getting the chills. I stayed in bed/sofa all weekend. The chills are gone but I just feel tired, I did a lot of sleeping. So, sadly, that's it. Have a great Monday. Sincerely, Bob 12-17-04 I'm taking a diary day off today. I planned on doing a diary but got caught up on making a new cover for my holiday DVD...I'm so glad I did, it turned out SO much better! Sorry for the non-update but it is the season of giving, can I get a witness?! I know three people having a birthday on Saturday...Happy Birthday MOM, Paula and Sarah. (I'm hoping that a diary mention will make up for the lack of gifts.) Have a great weekend, I'll be back on Monday. Always, Bob 12-16-04 I'm going to take a diary break today so I can work on my Holiday DVD. But before I just say 'That's it!' I have something great to share. I received something amazing in the mail yesterday. CARL, my friend from across the pond, did something so cool for me for the holidays. He sent me a card but there was something attached, a book of some kind. Upon closer inspection, it was a program for the Wirral Rovers, a soccer team in his neck of the woods. I thought, this is nice, I'm not a fan of soccer but it's the thought that counts. I'm flipping through the book and there's a post-it note that reads, "look." Carl Sent this to Bob So I looked and I have to say, I was so excited! Here's a closer view of what Carl did for me: THANKS CARL! Carl purchased a sponsorship for me of one of the Rover players! How smart is that?! bobborden.com is a boot sponsor of #34, JASON MCATEER. I LOVE IT! Does 'boot sponsor' mean that I'm responsible for his shoes? Good Lord, what a great thing! I don't think I can top this, all i can say is, thank you very much! Well done! That's it for today. Have a great day! Sincerely, Bob 12-15-04 I can't believe we're so close to Christmas, time is really flying. I'm in the process of making my annual holiday project, in past years its been CDs, last year it was a DVD, this year, the same. I couldn't go back to CDs after kicking it up to the DVD format. Editing the project was fun, I would have liked more time to make better transitions but you do what you can do. I got it in under 14 minutes, sounds like nothing but it's solid entertainment. It's on my mind right now because for the last two days, I've been having problems burning them. I burned 25 without a problem, then it wouldn't let me do anything. I thought I fried the DVD drive because the discs and the footage didn't change. After talking to Apple and my friends (Jay/Walter), it came down to the discs. That's good news and bad...good because I can finish the project, bad because I have 60 DVDs that don't work on my machine. But what can you do? Holy crap, you'll never believe what happened to me while purchasing lottery tickets last night. I played Mega Millions and also wanted to play Pick 3 but I was unsure if I really wanted to play that game. I thought, 'I do have a special number, what the heck, why not?'...I told the guy to play the Pick 3, he made the transaction and at that very second, the game changed from the Tuesday game to the Wednesday game. He looked stunned and told me that I was the last person in New Jersey to play the Pick 3 -- isn't that amazing?! AMAZING LOTTERY STORY (file photo) When you think about it, it really messes with your head. Side note to this story: I ended up losing the Pick 3 but still, it was something. While we're on the subject, I just thought of something. Those scratch off tickets...wouldn't it be great if they were already scratched off when you bought them? I have to say, I get nothing from scratching. I just want to get the tickets, find out if I'm a winner and get on with my life! Can I get a witness?! That last paragraph was a new feature to bobborden.com, I call it: That's Good Enough to be in my Stand-Up Act, Right? That's it for today. Stay beautiful, Bob 12-14-04 Bonus stories that were not included in yesterday's diary: I'm driving back to Hoboken on Sunday and all was well. When I get to New Jersey, I'm a little nervous because I'm driving a car that hasn't been inspected yet, it other words, I have no sticker on my windshield, I could get pulled over at any time. So, I'm driving and a car in the oncoming lane flashes his lights to warn me of a trooper checking for speeders. Quickly, I get in the far right lane. Just as I see the trooper, a car passes in the far left lane, I see this and go back to the middle lane, thus, I am shielded from the trooper by this car! How about that, pretty smart, can I get a witness?! A little later in NJ, I'm driving down a huge hill and have to pass a car, well, before I knew it, I'm going 80. I look in my rear view mirror and sure enough, there's a trooper about 5 car lengths back. After suffering a quick, mild heart attack, I moved over and took my foot off the gas. Thankfully, he passed me. Hmmmmm, maybe there's a reason they were left off of yesterday's diary. Anyway, a few people sent me one of those lame internet things yesterday...the thing about this one; they stole a photo of me from my website! Check THIS out (the photo is close to the end). Usually I'd e-mail the people who did this in a desperate attempt to become famous but to be honest, I just don't have the energy. If I still had a photo of the day, it would have been this today: Bob's nephew, Lucas, made this Kids, am I right? That's it for today. All my best, Bob 12-13-04 How about a photo diary to get back in the swing of things? I think that'd be cool. I had a great week in Steubenville, it was all about relaxing, going to the casino with my Mom, spending time with the nephews/niece and taking my "new" car to various repair shops around town, ha ha. Here's my new ride: Bob's 1991 Mazda MX-6 It needed a little more work than I thought but I really enjoy driving this car. It needed an axl, struts, a ball joint, 2 tires, muffler...but that's all, ha ha! Driving it to Hoboken yesterday I noticed how great it is on gas compared to the Jeep. It's crazy, I love it! I had fun taking out the radio and 10-disc CD changer that was in the trunk. I put it an older cd deck that I took out of my Nissan a few years back. It was funny, I ordered the new speakers before I knew about the repairs, shows you where my head's at. Bob knows how to install a car stereo I do have one small issue with the car - no cup holders! I found this out the hard way yesterday when I bought a can of cherry Coke. I couldn't hold it and I didn't want to risk putting it on the floor so I thought and I thought and I thought...I came up with this: Bob outsmarted a can of Coke I put the can inside a small can of Pringles and it fit perfectly between the seat and the emergency brake lever. It worked really well. Thinking about that killed about a half hour, ha ha. Here's a photo of my cats riding in the backseat: Bob's cats would rather be anywhere else That's it for today, I may have more things to talk about throughout the week as I remember them. I was sick Saturday, so I'm going to use the rest of my Sunday to chill. I leave you today with a photo of my nephews/niece. I took this so my Mom could include it in her Christmas cards. Needless to say, I had to take many, many more. Happy Holidays! Have a great day! Sincerely, Bob 12-02-04 That unexpected nap (I wrote about yesterday) really screwed me up. I didn't get to sleep until 3 AM Tuesday night...Ah, whatever, this isn't Bob's sleep report. Moving on -- It's December 2nd! I'm a little worried because I'm not in the Holiday spirit as of this writing. I'm also worried because I don't have a lot of money, I don't know if you know this but usually around this time, family and friends like receiving store-bought items. I have found a way around this, for the past few years, I made CDs and last year, I kicked it up a notch with a DVD. I think people like them, it's different. I was going to skip this year but a few people have told me that they're looking forward to it. One person even challenged me that it couldn't be as good as last year! So, now I have to do it. Word to the wise - you back me in a corner and I come out swinging! The thinking process has started and I'm going to make it next week. I should say that I HAVE to make it next week, oh boy. I think I mentioned on Monday that I bought the IT gift for my nephews this year. If you haven't heard about WOOT.com, I suggest you check them out. WOOT! They sell only one item per day at a discount. Some of the items are really great and others, well, you know. Such is life. I bought the IT gift for $30 less than I've seen it elsewhere. I make no money from sharing that info, just passing along something different. That may be all I have to talk about today. PROGRAM NOTE: I think I've been going without a break since August, I don't mind telling you, I need some time off. I'm taking a week off of bobborden.com to work on other projects and to relax. I'll be back on December 13th. Until then, I suggest checking out the sites on my 'links' page. If you don't care to do that, feel free to look at a photo of my cat, Billy, for a week. That should keep you out of trouble. Billy Have a great week! Sincerely, Bob 12-01-04 It's December, how the hell did that happen? Monday night, I fell asleep on my sofa at 12 AM and woke up at 3 AM, cheating myself out of a good night's rest. Tuesday night, I had a late dinner and fell asleep in a chicken tostada/cherry Pepsi fog. By my estimate, I crashed at 8:30 PM and woke up at 11 PM. It's 11 PM as I write this and I don't mind telling you, I'm OUT OF IT! ha ha. Here's a photo of what I look like after an unexpected nap: Bob's out of it! You'll have to excuse me but after that nap, writing a coherent diary, isn't going to happen. Heck, I was just going through my e-mail and was almost tempted to read one with the subject line: 'Cheapest meds you'll find' -- ha ha. I said to myself, 'maybe they are the cheapest meds I'll find?' So, I'll see ya tomorrow. Have a great day. All my best, Bob "I'm going to bed" |
