Quest for the perfect homemade McMuffin. It’s no secret, I love the McMuffin breakfast sandwich! My favorite part is the egg. How do they get the egg so perfect? My guess was egg rings. But when I used egg rings I could never figure out how to get the top to cook evenly with the bottom, you can’t flip it over. How can I crack this industry secret? Then yesterday, McDonald’s posted this:

Turns out there is no secret! Ha ha. But where do I buy the egg rings and cover? eBay. After a quick search I found some industrial egg rings and a cover.
How much? I’m a little embarrassed to say. Including shipping…$50. But it’s going to pay for itself! Every time I go to McDonald’s it’s almost $10. Plus, I also get OJ and a hash brown. By cooking at home, I’m going to save money and calories! Perfectly justified purchase.

My rings should get here sometime next week. I’ll have a full update at that time.

3 shows I like:

I like James May’s Man Lab.
It’s a show about rediscovering the skills the modern man no longer possess. But the selling point is James May’s unique delivery. Very entertaining. (It airs on BBC America, Monday nights.)

I like Family Tree.
It’s Christopher Guest’s show. I don’t need to explain who he is, right? The show is about a guy tracing his ancestry. It’s very funny. There are as many funny things going on in the background of this show as there are in the foreground. Funny. (HBO, Sunday, 10:30PM)

At this point, I know what you’re thinking, “Hey Bob, what’s with all these Brit shows? Can’t the Americans get it done anymore?” Good point. Relax.

I like The Goodwin Games.
Dad dies, makes the kids jump through unique/fun hoops to get their inheritance and to become a closer family. Only one episode has aired but it was very funny and very smart. FOX screwed the pooch on this one. They never gave it a chance and are basically burning it off. It’s a shame. (FOX, Monday, 8:30PM)

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma. Watch this crazy tornado footage! Horrible.

I was also sad to hear of Ray Manzarek’s passing. Like every teenager in the world, I went through a Doors phase. I even bought a book of Jim Morrison’s poetry. Ha ha. I still have no idea what he was writing about, ha ha! Ray was an amazing keyboardist. He played the bass lines with his left hand and the keyboard with his right, simultaneously. It’s hard to comprehend.

Album I missed the first time around:
Soundgarden’s Down on the Upside. I was going to buy one song this past weekend but the CD was only $4.99 on Amazon.com. It’s really good! New music, to me. Score.

I had a good weekend. Cara was in Miami with friends and I was flying solo! So, you know what that means…a lot of movies and a lot of bad food, ha ha. Seriously, I didn’t like being alone. It was pretty boring. But I’m glad she had a good time.

Saturday my sister-in-law and I drove to the Hamptons and then drove back. We ate lunch here:
It’s a hot dog stand located next to 495. The hot dog was pretty good. I like this photo. Look at that old guy, he loves hot dogs!

Saturday night I grilled some steak kebobs and watched “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.”
The kebobs were delicious and the movie was delightful.

Sunday the forecast called for rain. So, I woke up early and went to the supermarket. I like to avoid the weekend crowds, if possible. Later, I drove to LaGuardia to pick up Cara. I dislike LaGuardia Airport. There’s no cell phone lot! If you’re early you have to keep circling or find a spot where you’re not allowed to park. Yes, you can park in long-term parking but I’m not Rockefeller! It’s a bad layout. I believe the airport has been around since 1939!

We watched the Billboard Music Awards last night. I only watched to see Prince. He didn’t disappoint! The rest of the show was lame. Everybody lip-synced! Kid Rock told it like it was:

Note: I made the clip black & white to emphasize what an important issue lip-syncing at awards shows has become. (Ha ha.)

I downloaded a cool app the other day. It’s called “Watch ABC.” It lets you stream ABC, live!
My only complaint is the commercials seem to come on randomly, ha ha. I’m sure that will be fixed.

Have you heard of The Revivalists? I saw their lead singer, David Shaw, at Jazz Fest (Axs.tv). He has an amazing voice! I was inspired to buy all of their music! It’s very good stuff. Great vocals, great brass…love it!

Cara and I saw The Killers last night! How’s that for a fun Tuesday night, BAM! The tickets were a Christmas gift from Cara’s sister Deirdre. The concert was supposed to happen back in December but The Killers were sick. They rescheduled it for last night. I’ve never seen them live before. They were really good. The sound was a little too booming but I brought my ear plugs. They started the show with the house lights on. I love that!

When the lights went down I was impressed with the stage. They had lasers, fireworks and more explosions than a Kiss concert.

Assessing the crowd before the show I thought the knucklehead factor was going to be pretty high but we lucked out. My only complaint was the powdery smell of some fan. Ugh! The worst. OK, here’s 21 seconds of video from last night.

Quick weekend recap: Friday night we watched “Three Days of the Condor.” Classic. Saturday we went food shopping for Mother’s Day dinner. Sunday we had the family over for dinner. We also finished watching Marshmallow, the guinea pig.

I watched “Pretty in Pink” on my iphone this week. I know, I’m a real film connoisseur, ha ha. I think Cara must have been watching a show I didn’t care for…possibly “Scandal.” So, I’m watching this movie and I kept thinking, how did Duckie…

…grow up to be McDreamy?! It was really starting to bother me. Turns out, Duckie was Jon Cryer, not Patrick Dempsey. Ha ha. The star of “Pretty in Pink,” in my opinion, is James Spader. He played a great teenage turd, ha ha.

Have you heard the news? The cicadas are almost here!

I’m told they’re harmless. They make a lot of noise and only come out every 17 years.

Correction: I’m being told my cicada photo is actually a photo of singer/songwriter, Jon Secada. I’ll post the correct photo soon. This mistake reminds me of my favorite song, “You say cicada and I say Secada. You say tomato, and I say tomahto. Cicada, Secada, tomato, tomahto, let’s call the whole thing off.”
